PSG is the champion of Europe for the first time, and Luis Enrique’s side did it in style Saturday night in Munich.

In a night filled with anticipation and energy from both sets of fans, it didn’t take long for Les Parisiens to open the scoring. In the 12th minute, Vitinha found Désiré Doué inside the penalty area, and the 19-year-old showed presence of mind way beyond his years, passing it across the face of goal for former Inter player Achraf Hakimi to give his team the lead.

Eight minutes later, it was two. Nicoló Barella tried to shepherd the ball out for an Inter corner, but Willian Pacho had other ideas, hooking his leg around the Italian and setting up a PSG counter. From there, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia found Ousmane Dembélé, Dembélé found Doué and the winger’s shot deflected off Federico Dimarco, wrongfooting goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

Inter came out for the second half with some renewed fight, but any hope of a comeback was extinguished in the 63rd minute when Doué grabbed his second. A wonderful flowing move began when Vitinha and Dembélé played a glorious one-two, and Doué’s calm finish past Sommer completed an incredible evening for the teenager.

From then onwards, Inter fell apart and was carved open at will by the PSG attack. Kvaratskhelia – who joined the club from Italian champion Napoli in January – got the fourth in the 73rd minute, running onto a through ball from Dembélé and beating Sommer at his near post.

There was still time for one of the most unexpected goalscorers in Champions League final history to put the icing on the cake. In the 86th minute, 19-year-old Senny Mayulu exchanged passes with fellow substitute Bradley Barcola before lashing the ball in off the post. His celebration – running while raising his knees in pure joy – suggested he was almost as surprised as those watching on were.

Mayulu’s goal meant it was a record-breaking night. No team had won this fixture by more than four goals until tonight, and you have to think it will be a while before any does again.

The victory will likely mean even more to manager Luis Enrique than many of his other impressive achievements in soccer. The 55-year-old and his family suffered the ultimate heartbreak in 2019, when his nine-year-old daughter Xana died after a battle with cancer.

“My daughter loved parties and I’m sure where she is, she’s still having parties,” Enrique told reporters earlier this year.

Following the game, the PSG fans unveiled a tifo depicting Enrique alongside his daughter, ensuring that, in one way, Xana got to be there for the biggest party in PSG history.

Celebrations in Paris are set to go deep into the night after PSG’s incredible 5-0 win.

Almost 50,000 PSG fans who could not make it to the Allianz Arena watched the game at their usual home ground, the Parc des Princes.

And celebrations are only just getting started in the City of Light with fans parading down the Champs-Elysées, under the Eiffel Tower and around other famous landmarks.

But PSG star Ousmane Dembélé issued a warning to those partying in Paris not to get too carried away.

Speaking to the CBS broadcast, the 28-year-old asked fans back home for no violence in the aftermath of the historic win.

To prevent this from happening, around 5,400 police are on the streets of Paris following Les Parisiens’ Champions League win, per Reuters.

France star, and former Paris Saint-Germain standout, Kylian Mbappé took to Instagram to congratulate his former team after it won the Champions League for the first time in its history.

The Real Madrid forward moved from PSG to the Spanish capital last summer but Les Parisiens have clearly not missed their former talisman too much.

“Finally, the great day has arrived. The win and also the style of all of a club. Congratulations, PSG,” Mbappé posted to his Instagram story.

The Champions League is one major trophy Mbappé is yet to get his hands on and the 26-year-old must surely be thinking what could have been after seeing his former teammates’ success. Though he still keeps a warm place in the memory of the squad, according to PSG captain Marquinhos, who said the victory should belong to the Madrid forward as well.

“Kylian is an amazing person and he also deserved (the win). He went through a lot with us here. He gave his all and unfortunately, he couldn’t achieve it like (former PSG player Ángel) Di María too,” he said post-match, according to Spanish outlet Marca.

Even the long line of security couldn’t stop the PSG fans from finally getting onto the pitch to celebrate.

Thousands flooded onto the field out of pure excitement, just to get a little bit closer to the players and, more importantly, the coveted trophy: Ol’ Big Ears (or as the French call it La Coupe aux Grandes Oreilles).

When the PSG team then retreated back into the locker room – you expect for more celebrations – all the supporters safely jumped back into the stands where many of them remain.

The Paris faithful haven’t stopped singing all night, and that hasn’t changed despite most of this stadium being empty.

It was a second Champions League final disappointment in three years for Inter Milan. They headed home from Istanbul feeling hard done by in 2023, frustrated they hadn’t taken their chances in a narrow 1-0 loss to Manchester City.

This evening, they just didn’t create enough chances to take. And from treble talk a month ago, the squad’s been left empty-handed as a frankly miserable May comes to an end.

And it might not only be the month coming to an end, but rather an era in Milan too, with questions over the future of manager Simone Inzaghi – as an offer from Saudi Arabia lingers temptingly – and the feeling that for so many of these players, it could have been their last chance too.

PSG manager Luis Enrique said earlier in this journey that this season’s Champions League campaign would make a great thriller or horror film due to its many twists and turns.

For PSG, the final went exactly to script: A record-breaking Champions League winning margin in a debut European Cup win. It was a Hollywood ending of which Tom Cruise would be proud of with plenty of room and potential for the sequel.

Sport sometimes gets a hard time from those who don’t understand it. But it really can be a powerful tool that taps into the rawest of emotion.

As the PSG players celebrate in front of the fans, a large banner is unfurled behind the goal depicting PSG manager Luis Enrique and his daughter, Xana, who died in 2019.

Earlier this year, Enrique said he had hoped to honor Xana’s memory by winning the Champions League again, as he did back in 2015 with Barcelona.

After that victory, Enrique celebrated with his young daughter by planting a large flag in the center circle and it’s that image on the tifo presented by the PSG fans tonight.

Enrique is also wearing a T-shirt with a similar image, a powerful reminder of just what he was going through in the buildup to this match.

With Tom Cruise watching on, what at times has seemed Mission Impossible for PSG has become Mission Complete.

Fourteen years in the making, Ol’ Big Ears was the unashamed much publicized aim since Day 1 when Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) took over as owners at Paris Saint-Germain. The club has seen the likes of David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Carlo Ancelotti, Thomas Tuchel and, of course, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé come and go.

But with Luis Enrique’s arrival came a change in ethos and mentality, absolutely summed up by the banner unfurled by the PSG fans ahead of kickoff: “Ensembles nous sommes invincibles” (“Together we are invincible”).

And here at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, this was a team absolutely playing for each other – and the cause. A unit from the word go, playing the creative, exciting soccer to which we’ve become accustomed – and roared on by an incredible wall of fans – with the midfield magicians of Vitinha, João Neves and Fabián Ruiz running the show.

Achraf Hakimi’s opening goal after 12 minutes almost seemed too easy – the Moroccan defender looking embarrassed to have scored such an important goal against his former club.

And from there, Les Parisiens couldn’t be stopped.

It was a five-star performance. Then came a deserved brace for 19-year-old Désiré Doué after a season that has seen him announce himself to the world. He wasn’t even a regular starter for his former club Rennes a season ago. Number four came from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and, finally, a record-breaking fifth for Senny Mayulu.

What a performance.

Queen’s aptly named “We Are The Champions” is being played out around the stadium as the players take turns lifting the trophy.

Everyone wants to get their hands on the cup, but the biggest cheer from the crowd was when manager Luis Enrique lifted the trophy while being held in the air by his players.

Gold glitter is now covering a large portion of the pitch, as the PSG players show off the trophy to those adoring fans behind the goal.

Worth pointing out a few Inter fans stayed to watch the celebrations. How they wish it was them.

Amazing scenes both on the pitch and off it.

PSG fans can barely believe what they’ve just witnessed. They are dancing and singing all around me.

It was just the most perfect performance from their heroes, all of whom are legends now at the club.

There are even some tears from supporters after that trophy lift. Many now look exhausted. That match, despite being so straightforward, seems to have drained them emotionally.

This was the tournament they all wanted to see their side win. Now, they can finally celebrate it.

There will come a time when the Inter Milan players have to watch that game back and work out what went wrong. For their sake, let’s hope that does not come any time soon.

Simone Inzaghi’s side was outclassed in every area of the pitch tonight. In defense, it was carved open at will by this supremely impressive PSG attack. Going forward, Marcus Thuram’s header wide from a corner in the first half was about as close as it came to scoring a goal.

In truth, Inter’s season has absolutely collapsed. On April 23, the Nerazzurri were still on for a treble. What followed was a loss to city rival AC Milan in the Coppa Italia semifinal, a slip-up to lose the league to Napoli, and now utter humiliation in the Champions League final.

It is no shame to lose to this PSG side. What will worry Inzaghi, however, is how easily his team allowed its French opposition to run all over its defense once the third goal went in.

It’s times like these when Inter fans will want to just forget that soccer exists.

Luis Enrique had a decision to make before the game: does he start Désiré Doué or Bradley Barcola?

The PSG manager went with Doué and the rest was history.

The 19-year-old was named Man of the Match for the final in the biggest game of his career after scoring two goals and setting up another in a near-perfect performance.

Doué’s inch-perfect pass set up the opener to give PSG the lead, his first goal gave the French team much-needed breathing space and his second killed off any hope of an Inter comeback.

And it wasn’t just in front of goal where Doué starred – the teenager looked like a constant threat whenever and wherever he picked up the ball.

He’s a player who gets people on their feet and he looks set to do so for many, many years.

This will be very hard for Simone Inzaghi to take but whatever comes next for him, we can be sure of one thing: The majority of Inter fans will still likely be willing him to stay at the club despite the fact Inter will now end the season without a trophy.

During his time with the Nerrazurri, the highly sought after 49 year-old head coach has led Inter to one Serie A crown and now two Champions League finals in three seasons after that 2023 defeat to Manchester City.

In fact, he’s won a total of six domestic trophies since arriving from Lazio in 2021. It’ll be fascinating to see what comes next for Inzaghi.

There’s every likelihood he stays but Inter fans won’t need reminding former manager Jose Mourinho left after winning the treble 15 years ago.

There was an explosion of PSG joy after that full-time whistle.

The bench poured onto the pitch to celebrate with the players, many of whom had fallen to the floor out of pure emotion.

PSG manager Luis Enrique stumbled onto the field, looking slightly overwhelmed with his team’s performance.

His coaching staff then ran to celebrate with their boss, who ran to the fans behind the PSG goal.

This win means so much to Les Parisiens, but maybe even more to Enrique who has suffered unimaginable heartbreak since the death of his daughter, Xana, in 2019.

The referee blows the final whistle and Paris Saint-Germain is champion of Europe for the very first time! What’s more, it has done so by a record-breaking margin – 5-0.

The French side just had way too much for its Italian opposition tonight. Goals from Achraf Hakimi, two from Désiré Doué, and one more from each of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu have PSG fans celebrating wildly, and the Inter fans – those who are left in the stadium – crestfallen.

It is the first time since 1993 that a French team has won the Champions League, and only the second time ever. Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Neymar and many more have tried and failed to win the Champions League for Les Parisiens, but the likes of Ousmane Dembélé, Marquinhos and Gianluigi Donnarumma will now go down in history.

We are witnessing the greatest night in the history of PSG.

Score: PSG 5-0 Inter Milan

PSG is making it look easy.

It’s 5-0 and this time it’s the substitutes getting a piece of the action.

Teenager Senny Mayulu put the finishing touches on a beautiful move where he linked up with fellow subs Bradley Barcola and Warren Zaïre-Emery.

The French youngsters moved the Inter team around with clever passes and triangles and waltzed into the Nerazzurri box with ease.

Mayulu looks like he can’t believe it and I’m sure the PSG fans are having to pinch themselves in the stands.

Wow.

Paris Saint-Germain is about to finish up what might be the ultimate Ewing Theory season.

What is the Ewing Theory? Glad you asked.

Bill Simmons, founder of The Ringer and former writer for ESPN, came up with the theory to describe the phenomenon of a team having an incredibly successful season just after losing a star player. It was named after Patrick Ewing because a friend of Simmons was convinced that Ewing’s teams played better when he was on the bench.

PSG had been anchored by Kylian Mbappé, the immense French talent who had been at the club since he was a teenager, for the last several years. Even as other stars came in and out and top managers came and went, Mbappé was the focal point for Les Parisiens.

After a drawn-out drama, Mbappé left the French capital for the Spanish one, joining soccer giant Real Madrid in a long-discussed move before this season. It was the end of an era in Paris, a time when high-profile players brought increased expectations but could not win the Champions League.

Now that Mbappé and the rest – Lionel Messi, Neymar, etc. – are gone, what has PSG done? Only gone on one to have one of the most successful seasons in French soccer history.

Unless Inter Milan has some sort of miracle up their sleeve (spoiler: they won’t), Luis Enrique and his team will have won the European treble this year by taking the French Ligue 1, cup and Champions League.

No stars? No problem. A new generation has arrived in glittering style.

Inter fans I spoke to before this final had spent hours traveling to Munich and paid eyewatering amounts of money to get their hands on a ticket.

But after that fourth goal, some have seen enough and are heading for the exit.

In fairness, it’s only a small amount, but there are now some empty seats in the Inter end.

This simply wasn’t how it was meant to go for them.

It’s well and truly party time in Munich for Paris Saint-Germain… and their fans are well and truly soaking up every second of it!

Their supporters are taunting their Inter counterparts know by doing the now famous ‘Poznan’ celebration, where supporters turn their backs to the on-the-pitch action, linking and jumping up and down while chanting in unison.

And what’s more the first chants of “Championes, Championes, Olé! Olé! Olé!” have started ringing out.

Inter fans on the flip side have been stunned into silence, crestfallen at just how one-sided this contest has been with their team barely landing a glove on their opponents.

And the pain isn’t over yet… we still have another 15 minutes to play and this could yet get uglier for the Italian outfit.

This game is over. Inter is down 4-0 and it looks like it could get worse at any moment. Simone Inzaghi’s side has just never gotten going and, after losing the league to Napoli on the final day of the season, the players look like they are just waiting for their vacations to begin.

But they can’t switch off now. Not since 1994 has a team lost a Champions League final by four or more goals. No team has ever lost one by five or more. The Nerazzurri are going to have to pull together if they’re going to avoid making unwanted history.

It’s starting to get ugly out there for Inter Milan as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia makes it 4-0 to PSG.

The Georgian winger was played in one-on-one by Ousmane Dembélé and Kvaratskhelia made no mistake with the finish.

As the game has gotten increasingly stretched in the second-half, PSG has taken advantage of the holes in the Inter defense.

There were acres of space again behind the defenders with Kvaratskhelia the beneficiary this time around.

Dembélé played a vital role in this goal as well and will now be after one of his own as Les Parisiens run riot.

Score: PSG 4-0 Inter Milan
